Announcement of the Working Families Success Network:
9:00 a.m. – 10:15 a.m
The path to economic security often poses many challenges to low-income families, but the Working Families Success Network is advancing an approach to providing financial services to lower-income individuals to help participants find jobs, build assets and improve their financial security. This session will describe how the approach expands opportunity for low-income families and leads them to better jobs with a career path, more net income and higher credit scores.
12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m.
This plenary will focus on the changing economy and how it affects how workforce and other programs implement their strategies. Participants will hear from Paul Osterman from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan Center about current and future trends, including projected shifts in the rate of unemployment, job growth, sectors, and education that workers will need in the next decade. Dr. Osterman will explore the implications of these fundamental changes, and a panel of experts will respond by talking about what these changes mean for low-income families and potential strategies within the WFSN approach to meet those challenges.
Introduction of Keynote Speaker: Thomas Major, Lumina Foundation
Keynote Speaker: Paul Osterman, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Professor of Human Resources and Management, MIT Sloan School of Management and the Department of Urban Planning.
