Peter Beard serves as the Senior Vice President for Education and Income in the Community Impact Division at United Way. Peter leads a team of professionals that are responsible for the development and delivery of key global, national and community strategies and practices that will allow the United Way network to work collaboratively with community stakeholders to achieve meaningful social change in United Way’s strategic focus areas of education and income. The team is responsible for developing effective and innovative impact models and practices, and toolkits to support community, national and network strategies through outcome-focused planning.
Prior to joining United Way, Peter served at the Fannie Mae Foundation for 14 years. During that tenure, he was the executive director during the wind-down of its operations and senior vice president for communications, strategy and information where he oversaw national grant making and the development of the collaborative web-based portals, www.KnowledgePlex.org and www.DataPlace.org. Prior to joining the Fannie Mae Foundation, he served for five years as the general counsel at Habitat for Humanity International in Americus, Georgia. He was also in private legal practice at Semmes, Bowen & Semmes in Baltimore, Maryland. Peter received his A.B. in economics from Davidson College and J.D. (magna cum laude) from Syracuse University College of Law.
